THE REEL FORD CAR.
—4 MADE OF COTTON. Mr Henry Ford is working on a' scheme to make motor-car's from a new material consisting mainly of highly pressed cotton, which replaces j the steel, thus greatly reducing the weight and cost, according to - a statement by Mr Roger Babson, the famous economist, who has just ,e-' turned to Boston alter visiting Mr Ford at Detroit. Mr Babson says he saw a mound ot sticky substance in Mr Ford’s laboiatory. The motor millionaire, answering an inquiry, said it was a mixture oi formaldehyde, glue and cotton to make "cottonoid” for motor-cars. Babson describes the cottonoid es tough and long wearing. , “If Mr Ford is successful,’’ he said, ! “he will in time cast motor-cars j somewhat after the manner in which , •a cook stamps out apple dumplings!’’ i Mr Babson says- that the idea will result in a greater revolution in the j motor-car world than Mr Ford's pre- j sent “tin flivver.” 'Mr Ford believes j that the day of the heavy motor-car ! is ended. He complained Hha.t ins engine is now compelled to carfy -it alt times a superfluous load, which is a constant waste. He thinks that the future houses, trains and factories may be made of “cottonoid.”
