LIFE-SAVING CLUB.
FORMED IN OTAKI. A meeting was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening far the purpose of considering the formation of a life-saving elub for Otaki. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Brandon) prosid,.,l. and "there was quite a satisfactory attendance. The Mayor said all knew Mie purpose of Hie meeting. He would like to have scon more young fellows present, :,s U would be upon them that the actual life-saving work would fall. The Mayor said that Mr Rcardou, of Wangnnui, had generously donated a • reel and line, and Mr Byron Brown had given a shield for competition annual- j ly. This trophy had been won for the i first time by the Maraimi Club at last week's demonstration, and he hoped it would not be lung before the Otaki Club had its name inscribed as winners of the shield. (Applause). Th« Mayor then moved that a life-savin's club be formed in Otaki. Mr Byron Brown, in seconding the motion, pointed out the crying need there was for such a club, and what a valuable acquisition it would be. The motion was put and carried unanimously. The Mayor suggested that the active membership fee bo S s 6d, and 10s (id for honorary members, membership to be open to either sex. The suggestion was adopted.
