Sister Lewis will be pleased to receive gifts of children’s clothes and clean rag. The Otaki Band desires to acknowledge with thanks a gift of £1 towards its funds from .Miss Baxter, of Otaki. Mr T. \V. Garth, of Wellington, has purchased the. Railway Hotel, Claki, and takes possession on April loth.
Mr Veitrh, M.P., of Wanganui, informed a representative of the “Mail” on Saturday that it was expected that the general election would take place early in December.
The ladies in charge of the tea-rooms at the horticultural show last week, Misses Baker and Whiteman, were successful in clearing £5 from the rooms, which is quite a satisfactory result.
Additional subscribers to the beach carnival fund are Messrs J. M. Irving 10s, J. Kilmister 10s. A. J. Podeviu 10s, ‘Whiteman 10s, M. Simcox £1 Is. The sum of £lO was collected during the carnival on Saturday.

A suggestion was thrown out bv Ci. Knox at a meeting of the Horowheuuu County Council on Saturday that if a horse ami dray were provided in binding the roadman would be able to do small metalling jobs very cheaply. J he chairman was opposed to such a scheme on tlie grounds that roadmen came and went and the horse ami dray might pass through the hands of numbers of men. Things would get lost, lit; said, and the tutu out would be anyone’s property. He was more in favor of hiring a horse and dray when required. The matter was not pushed and was allowed to drop.
