MOVIE NOTES.
(By the Movie Man)
J It is said that .Dustin Farnum has i | one of the finest- opportunities in his ’'career to display liis undoubted abili- j - ty in “The Primal Law,’’ a recent release. i There is a rumour that Dorothy and Lilian Gisli arc both going on the' , stage. This does not mean they will, heavy the screcii. , , Irene Castle (Mrs Robert Tremain) - ' says she prefers the stage, but the t movies pay better. Now we can undert ! stand why several famous stage stars 1 ‘ stay in the silent drama, although they - prefer the stage. Quite a number, too, ■' arc following'Alice Brady’s example—--1 working'on both stftge and screen. ■ Edith Ilallor, a Sel/.nick luminary, was formerly'a Ziegfeld Folly girl. The ' originator of The Follies is Flo. ZiegL I feld. husband of Billie Burke. s I Dorothy Dalton lias been repeatedly asked to enact a similar role to the one she had in “The Flame of the Yu- ■„ j kom ” She has it in “The Idol of the North. ” Since the Arbuckle case a number of tii& producing, companies have inserti. ed a “morality clause” in their ar- , fists’ eontracts. One jinn indeed has I made it !1 condition that should an actor be concerned in a notorious law case or scandal his or her contract shall at once lie annulled.
A new star is Robert Kimball, Clara Kimball Young’s father. It is evidently never too'late to be a star. Eddie I’olo is starting a new serial entitled “The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. ’ ’ An actor who has given some splendid characterisations and yet who has never been starved is Courtenay Foote. He has acted with Clara Kimball Young and Elsie Ferguson. He does some very good work as the step-father in
“The Passion Flower” with Norma Talmadgc. Natalie Talmadge, the’inidille sister of the three Talmadges, has it small part: in this production. Mi-l-Vote is an Englishman and lii.s ailcestors as far back as 17TO were actors.
Conrad Nagel is a recent film success. He acted in several Broadway productions but “Forever After,” with Alice Bradv, assured his success. After that he acted in several of Alice Brady's films, and he took the part of Laurie in (he screen version of “Little Wo; men.” Now he is one of the best leading men flint Paramount have. Harrison l-’ortl is again acting with Constance Talmadgc. . Miss Talmadge lias never had a better leading man. They are seen in “Wedding Bells.”
Lent rice .Joy started screen work iji Billie West comedies. .She is now in drama. Comedy is a splendid groundwork for screen work it seems.
