AEROPLANE MEETS WITH MISHAP.
FORCED LANDING AT MANAKAU. MACHINE SEB.IOUSLY DAMAGED. Some excitement was caused at .Manakau on Thursday by the forced dcscem of' an unexpected aeroplane, and iu> subsequent wreck. From what rail be gathered, the machine cmuc from Tituaiti, and was on its way to Aueklund. n was m charge of Pilot Parke, and bad as a passenger the chairman of directors of the Aviation Company, which has its headquarters at Tirnaru. The plane had been lour hours in the air from Timaru, and was to pick up benzine at Levin. t'Jie supply aboard gave out, however, just, before reaching the objective, and ihe pilot was forced to make a descent tit the most suitable place he could. This proved to be a paddock near Mr W. Bevan's, and a good landing was made. Unfortunately the plane collided with a slump while running along the ground, with the resu.lt that it was badly damaged—so badly in fact-, that tiie liigiil could not be resumed. The pilot and passenger escaped injury. The aeroplane was subsequently taken to the Manakau station foi consignment, by rail to Auckland'for repairs.
