■Air James Banks, of Waverlev, has been appointed head teacher of the Foxton School. The Rev. Temuera Tokoaitua left Otaki this morning on a visit to the South Island. Air A. C. Clarke, who has been on a visit to the Old Country, has returned to his home at Paekakariki. Sir Francis Bell is to leave for England by the Athcnie, about the end of March. Mr <?. A. Monk (chairman of the Horowheiiua County Council) was elected chairman of the Horowheiiua Hydroelectric Power Board at its first meeting on Monday. Mr J. if. Curry, of Blenheim, who was a candidate for the Wairau seat at the last election, lias announced his intention of contesting the seat again at the next election. He will stand as a supporter of the Reform Party. A veteran of the Maori wars, and an erstwhile unit of the famous 57th Mb'st Middlesex Regiment (known to history as the “Die-hards”), Sergeant-Major Edwin Bezar, of Bintoul street. Wellington South, celebrated his eightyfourth birthday on Monday. A visitor to Otaki to-day was Mr W. \Y. Corbett, a well-known architect of Kilbernie. Wellington. Mr Corbett was greatly interested "in Otaki and its surroundings, and if there is sufficient inducement offering intends opening a branch of his business here.

Mr tY. C. Nation. .UP., of Levin, celebrated his eighty-third birthday on Saturday last. Mr Nation is probably the oldest printer now “at the case” in New Zealand. At his private press in Levin he still sets up and produces the monthly magazine. “The Message of Life.” devoted to the interests of spi ritualism.

The funeral of Mrs Temuera Tokoaitua took place on Sunday in the presence of a large gathering of Maoris and Europeans including several Natives from the South Island. The burial service was impressively conducted bv the Rev. Paul Temuera Tokoaitua. of Rotorua, a son of the

Rev. Temuera, sent'., and a stepson of the deceased lady.
