* SECRETARY'S REPORT. Lust season the Chib decided that the time 4u«l. come to bring its course iut» line with the chief links in the Dominion by increasing the holes to the full number, IS. A plan of the proposed extension was? submitted to the Committee by Mr F. S. Simcox, and after a thorough examination of the country was accepted and the work was taken in hand by the green keeper last spring. All the‘new greens and new tees have been finished, and if we have good rains in March will be in j,«»d order when the season begins. Th* fair way will be a little rough the i; rjl year, and members must be patient, as it will take a little time and a good bit of work .to get the course in o - 00 ,l playing condition. The Club was not successful as usual in the mterelub matches, being beaten by Johnsonville. the Hutt, and Manawatu Clubs; tllo only v.-i s registered being against Levin- Tho latter club, our nearest neighbour, has also adopted a forward policy, having leased new ground are putting down an 18 hole course. The Club’s competitions were keenly contested, and the different winners well earned their laurels. The following players improved tlieir golf ald'v during the season:—Sievcrs, Atmorc, AVills. G. Lethbridge and Dr. Sharp, of these G. Lethbridge reduced his handicap from 24 to 1- and no doubt will be one of the Club’s strongest players in Jhe not dim future. ■Amongst the ladies the greatest improvement was shown by Miss Bennett. The championships resulted in wins for ytiss Quill and Albert Wiiiterburn; the former played a determined game ■md is a good match player. Winterhum shewed brilliant 6orm defeating f'rav after a good tussle. The thanks of the Glut are due to the bodies catering committee who all worked hard to make the visiting teams’ visits enjoy•n'de The X.Z. Golf Association was remodelled during the season, delegates now being elected from the different clubs with its headquarters in Wellington; one of our members. Mr R. G. Kirk belli" elected chairman. Members will all agree that a better choice . could not have been made. Mr Kirk, . as well as being such a. keen golfer, is ■c 11 np in tho theory and laws appet- • fanning to the game. The new associa- , Bon has regular meetings and sends out , reports to all the clubs, which I am , sure appreciate being governed by a live body. X am sorry to have to re- - cord the loss of two of our lady mem- , hers, Mrs ‘Hodgson, whose excellent , work for the Club is dully appreciated , hr members, and Mrs P. H. Harper, but , otaki’s loss is Levin’s gain and we ( hope to often welcome her on the links. < Turning to finances, the Club has in- ( creased its over-draft considerably to < make the new holes, the cost about £(’o, ( and also the season last year was ox- , tended for a month (the tennis courts nor. bc*ng ready) which caused addi- , tional expense. As we now have an , extended course we have room for a - 1 good many more players and I would f ask every member of the Club to do his t best to get now members to join for the ( coming season. 1
