OVER THE TARARUAS.

A party of Wellington gentlemen, consisting of Messrs Files, Von Stunner, Rodgers and Fife left Upper Hutt at 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, and journeyed via the Quoin (3916 ft.) to Bk>*b the ranges. The trip proved a Comparatively easy one. The blaze was indistinct, and on this account inexperienced persons would not foe wise in travelling by this track. The route is more direct than Mt. Marcbant. The party camped on top of the Quoin on Saturday nigfet, and left again at 8 a.m. on Sunday, reaching Mt. Hector in record time. Then by easy stages they journeyed to “The lorks.’’ From Hector they had a splendid view of Mts. Ruapehu and Egmont, and of the South Island, the atmosphere being particularly clear. The party, who had a most enjoyable trip, reached Otaki on Sunday afternoon and left for Wellington this morning.
