BAND PICNIC.

A VISIT TO KAPITI. On Sunday last, at Mr and -Mrs Web- ,!■ 's invitation, eighteen members and , ~o oiiic.uis of the Otaki Brass Band visited iCapit'i island, the home of the Webber family, and the great chief. To Rauparahu's, stronghold during the Maori war. Arriving at the island at Li a.m.. the Band struck up the March, - ilauparaha " —an appropriate selection. There being visitors to the i 5..;.;! ..;.;! from Wellington and Otaki, the band "-ot a loyal welcome, while Kapiti had the appearance of a seaside resort. .ho visitors were taken io dinner, two .urge tables being laid out. and altogether about 111 t v persons were catered for. One was struck by the calm, .-er attentive manner, which the family vaited on the guests. In the after.•oon the Hand j.hivvd selections, whirl; ver.vone appreciated, on Ihe lawn. It : ~ pleasing to record that .Mr Webber ens one of the mainstays of the old Maori Band, and needless to say has a strong affection with the present Band. In the evening Mr and Mrs Webber delighted the parly with their banjo and

•jiunol'orte selections, while a number; of those present contributed songs, etc. On Monday morning most of the Bandsmen returned home,-but some half dozen preferred to stuv another day. They were well rewarded, Mr Webber and' sons taking two'; launch loads on a fishing excursion round the island, and ( soon they landed a quantity of fish. The two launches then made for home, doing the trip in line style, and thus came "The end of a perfect day." Mr Webber's home, it may b« mentioned, is fitted with every modern appointment, such as electric light etc.. and ho was able in the evening to give a real good moving picture display. Billiards. euchre and gramaphonc selections were also, indulged in. Tuesday morning saw the rest of tlie party leaving for home, all sorry to say good-bye. Mr and itis Webber ami family were exceptionally kind and hospitable to cvicrvonc. On landing at Paraparaumu 1 beach, Mr .T. Howell, with his usual [kindness, conveyed the party by car to i the ! ail way station.
