At the Nelson cycle sports Leu Maugham (Otaki) was second in the Licensed Victuallers’ Handicap, second in the Provincial Handicap. 11. Maugham won both the Provincial aud Presidents’ Handicaps.
"The Lilac Domino,” staged by Messrs J. 0, Williamson’s Company at Otaki last night, was well attended, and a very pleasing entertainment resulted. The acting, singing, and dresses of the Company were all most favorably commented upon, and the audience frequently showed its appreciation by hearty applause!

The text ol the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act has just come to hand. Under section -10 ol the Municipal Corporations A'ct, 1920, there was a disquaiilieation clause lor all councillors who were directors of firms or combines transacting business over £'s lor one contract, or £ifi per year with the Council concerned. Hut the amended Act. of last session provides for the disqualification of the general manager only of a public company which transacts business with the Council concerned in respect of a contract which exceeds £5 in the case of a single contract ,or £lO altogether in any financial year. Directors of companies are now qualified to be elected and act as Borough Councillors under the Act.
