SHANNON NEWS.
WATER SUPPLY FOR SHANNON. Mr R. Edwards, borough engineer, reported: 1 tun in receipt of yours of January it, and in reply beg to state that l have had a consultation with Mr Kissel, the Government engineer in charge of the Mangahao lighting scheme, stationed at Wellington, who assures -me that there will be nothing objectionable in the water for household purposes after it- has passed through the turbines. I questioned him very closely about any oil that may drip from the bearings of the impulse wheels, but he assured me that there was no differnce at the Lake Coleridge scheme. If this proves to he so, then the fact that the water is forced through the machines at a, great, pressure will really do the water good—complete ' aeration of the water is absolutely necessary. I intend to submit a scheme to supply Shannon, having its source close up to the power-house. I will be in Shannon on the 17th for the purpose of completing the levels in order to ascertain the available head, which will, of course, determine the size of the pipes. I see no reason why the report should not be ready for the next meeting of the Council.
