«—, WAGES TO BE REDUCED. The Horowhenua County Council spent some time in committee at Saturday’s meeting in eonsidering tl}e financial position and tlie question of retrenchment. After considerable discussion, Cr Monk moved, Cr Broadbelt seconded, and it was carried: “That one month’s notice of their discharge be given to all our roadmen, the loreman and carpenter, arm that fpesh applications be called at the following rates: Men 12/6, foreman 14/, carpenter 18/, 48 hours a week to be worked and holidays to be as follows: Not more than 12 working days for the 12 months; that fresh applications be called to be in by February 10, the date of the appointments to be Febru- . ary 20.” ’ The present rates being paid by the Council are: Men 13/6 per day, foreman r 16/, and carpenter £l. * On the motion of Cr McLeavey, se--6 conded by Cr Knox, it was resolved r that the following rates be paid for teams: One horse 22/, two horses 28/, * three horses 34/, and four horses 40/ >• -The rates being paid now are onehorse peum 25/, two horses 32/6, three horses £2 and four horses £2 10/.
