' The defendant, who was a ship’s fireman, and a returned soldier, pleaded not guilty. He said lie übtrained his discharge from his last vessel in Calcutta. His L shipmates sang “The Bed Flag” the • night before the Sealda left Calcutta, but he had not joined in. f The magistrate said there was no doubt that the defendant was the man who committed the offence. In his I opinion tfie act of- tearirfg out the 1 Union Jack from the Ensign and leaving the red flag of anarchism floating was a heinous offence. Defendant was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
