MONTHL'i ivIEEI'INa. The ordinary monthly meeting of , the above Council v. as neld at Levin , jon Saturday. Present: Crs. G. A. j I Monk (chairman), H. Barber, J. R. Whyte, A. R. Knox, F. J. Ryder,- H. G. Bryant, Jas. McLeavey, S. A. Broad-, lielt and C. I. Harkness. Correspondence. Correspondence was read and dealt V-ith as follows: — From District Engineer pointing the view on the crossing one mile „outh of Waikauae railway station was oad owing to trees growing on Mr, tligginson's property obstructing same. People approaching from the the south had dilheulty in seeing an, approaching train. Beyond cutting a, few branches Mr Higginson declined to make any further improvement, and ( it was desired that the Council should', take necessary steps.—Referred to the i 1 Hutt County Council, under whose jurisdiction the matter lay. , From Department of Public Health,,
stating that a nuisance existed on premises occupied by Mr Hira Parata at Waikauae caused by a dead cow lying on his property. They rceomnicndeu that the carcase be buried. —The chairman explained the animal had been burned by the Council's men. It did not belong to Mr Parata, and wa3 an escapee.
From Treasury Department, enclosing £3 10s for fees, fines, etc., from the Levin S.AI. Court, and £2 from Otaki Court.—Received. From Manawatu A. and P. Association, stating that it had been suggested to set up a West Coast Advisory Committee in connection with the proposed afforestation of sand dune areas on the coast, and asked the Council to appoint a delegate to attend a meeting on January 12.—Chairman appointed. From Lake Domain Board, forwarding the following resolution: "That the Horowhenua Connty Council be requested to havo the outlet cleared out as has been done in past years to lower the like to level as agreed by all parties.—Work to be done as soon, as possible. , From E. J. Nash, Shannon, S. H. j Roberts, ' and Cdley Bros., drawing attention to damage done by floods in • their district.—Left to councillors for i the riding and the engineer to attend to.
From D. Sutherland (Foxton) stating he had mot with an accident at the Wirokino bridge through a hole in the road. He, wife and family wore thrown out and shaken, whilo the gig was broken. He asked for remuneration.—The Chairman said the bridge was under the control of the Manawatu County Council, and on his suggestion the claim was sent to that body.
From L. E. Dixon (Ohau), asking for drain repairs.—Permission given to do the work. Cr. Harkness said the request was a reasonable one, and that the work when done would bo very beneficial.
From V. J. Cottle (Te Horo) again i applying for a crossing fo his house at\ Te Horo.—Tho Chairman said tho re- , quest was granted some time ago. 'J
Cr. Knox -said he had interviewed Cottle, and stated that if pipes were available the work would be done.
Work to be done as pipes were now available. '
From Mrs Duckworth (Anipaepae), complaining of shortage of water run-, niug throufh the races.—Left to Cr.l Broadbelt and engineer to attend to.
