OTAKI’S REST RESORT.

IS PROGRESS BEING MADE? y A meeting of the committee of tho Otaki Rest Resort proposal was held in the Town Board’s office on Monday night. Present: Messrs J. S. Polo (chairman), C. H. Williams (secretary), J. P. Brandon, W. Vaughan. L. St. George, Albert Smith. F. G. Davies; Mesdames Williams and Fox. After tEe minutes of the last meeting wore read and conflrmed, Mr Brandon said, while appreciating the work of the chairman and secretary, he considered better progress would bo made with the proposal if placed under the control of the Town Board, and finally moved in this direction. The motion was seconded by Mr St. George. Mr Smith, while approving, said lie thought it might be advisable to first call a public meeting. Mesdames Williams and Fox agreed, while Mr Williams took exception to Mr Brandon’s remarks to the effect that sufficient progress had not been made. He considered the Board could not push tho work more than the committee had done.

Mr Brandon held that better progress could have been made. it was then proposed by Mr Williams, seconded by Mrs Fox, that the committee’s business be not handed to the Town Board till confirmed by a

public meeting. Mr 1.. St. George considered no benefit would accrue from a public meeting, as it would only bo sparsely attended, and therefore a waste of

The Chairman explained that an endeavour had been made to get the section cleared by both contract and bv day labour, but without, satisfac-

tory results. Mr Brandon said he would withdraw his resolution if lie thought progress would be made, but if no progress was to be made he maintained a public meeting should lie called. He was convinced he could get the necessary work done.

Mr Williams gave an assurance that the work of clearing would be dono before, the next meeting, and on this condition Mr Brandon withdrew his mot ion. The Chairman considered a public meeting should be called to consider the whole matter, but this did not find strong support. On the. motion of tho chairman, seconded by Mr Williams, Mr Smith was deputed to wait, on Mr Thomson with a view to having the section graded.

The Chairman said he had prepared a plan of the kerbing and railing for the fence, and that concrete posts had been ordered.

It was reported that there was a small debit balance, but that if fund* were given ns promised thero would be a good credit.
