1 OTAKI MAORI RACING CLUB. 1 SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENTS | TO BE EFFECTED. J Tho Otaki Maori Racing Club in--5 tend—Board of Trade permitting—to I effeet big improvements on its course 3 before the next June meeting. The J well-known architects, Messrs Crieh- [ ton and AlcKay, have - been commissioned to prepare plans and specifications for a considerable amount of work, which, when finished, will be the means of bringing the Otaki Club right into line with many of the leading clubs of the Dominion. The course , is to be extended at the eastern end, the straight will be lengthened considerably, and the shape of the track generally improved. It is expected that the course will be made some five or six chains longer than at present, while the four-furlong races will practically bo on the straight. The judge’s box will be removed about two chains further dow-n, the present stewards’ stand will be removed and the timber used for improving the outside stand. By this means the lawn will be extoftded, it being proposed to erect the new stewards’ stand further east, aud at the same time extend the birdcage enclosure. The stand itself will be greatly enlarged and be made thoroughly up-to-date, having separate apartments for stewards and press, contain various rooms for enquiry purposes, offices, dining and ambulance rooms, etc.’ Cloak rooms for ladies, together with other conveniences, will be erected, and facilities otherwise much improved. We understand the improvements contemplated will cost from £6OOO to £7OOO. Wc heartily congratulate tho Club on its progressive step.
