AN APPEAL FOR PERISHING HUMANITY.

To the Editor. Sir,—May 1 ask for-space to appeal to the Otaki public on behalf of perishing humanity! When a. man in the position of Sir Tho*. Mackenzie speaks in public an he did in Wellington last week, it makex one wonder whether we live in n Christian country. 1 don't ace any sinus of want cau.-< d by the generosity shown to the people of Belgium. The picture- appear to be well racing flourishes, the. ..hops appear to be nelling their goods, neither does one hear of hotels closing down for lack of cow torn. No, we have more than amp!- food and clothing; we cannot go on complacently spending money while millions of our fellow being-, are dying for want of food. Headers, do you realise what it means? The little children of Europe, cold, illclothed, fireless, ju-t dying for lack of bread, while we have more than wo need. From China come appalling figures: 20 millions dying of starvation, literally no food available. It is. computed that 1 per cent may bo saved! Oh, think oi the agonies being endured, the hopelessness! Shall we, a Christian people, be deaf to the cry for help? If our Faith means anything to us, if humanity means anything to us, we must, deny ourselves. and -end what help we can. I would suggest, Mr Editor, that two i-übscrip-tions lists be opened at once (wry ■ hour of delay means suffering that wit can help to ligfhen)—one for the starving children of Europe and one for the staving millions of China. I will gladly subscribe to both. I would a»k your readers to look up I. John iii--17. —I am, etc., 8. M- LEE. , Otaki, November 22nd, Wlh. [We will be glad to open subscription lists at the "Mai!" office for both the deserving objects mentioned by Miss Lee. Any amounts, received will be duly acknowledged in the column* of the "Mail." Ed. "Mail."]
