DESERT ISLAND RESCUE. Two United state- marines with two women have been found in a dying condition on an uninhabited island in the Pacific by on* of the Japanese Government boat-. The men had been guards of the wireless station in (.•nam. one of the Marshall Islands, in the Pacific Ocean. Becoming tired of the monotony "of the place they attempted to escape in a motor boat, taking with them two native women. Their destination was Australia, but about 800 miles out their boat was wrecked, and they landed on a small island. After a mouth on the island their tood rati out, and. almost dying of hunger , they were found by the Japanese and rescued, says the Kobe "Herald." They \\ere taken to Yokohama. DOL-DIUE PLEADS I'OK EEAULEIN "The amount of thieving that goes on where we employ Germans is extraordinary," commented (the President of the British Court in Cologne, when he ordered seven days to two girls for stealing articles belonging to a nursing sister at the hospital where they had been employed. Iso sooner had the sentence been pronounced than a young private of the E.A.S.C. rushed from the back of the court and exclaimed as he erabraced one of the girls: "She is innocent. She would have taken the things back." "Are you the woman's husbandf'" asked the president. "No; but I'm engaged to her." was the reply. "Well, you. can do her a good turn by telling her to leave British property alone in future." advised the officer, adding that if an immediate appeal was put in it would receive every consideration. MURDERER'S REMARKABLE PLEA.
