AN AWFUL DEATH.

MAN CHOPS HIS LEG OFF AND SUCCUMBS. Auckland, November 12. A tragedy occurred in tite bush near Kainarama on 4th November, which was duly discovered yesterday. On the date mentioned George Bcdelph, a single man, aged 39, and a returned Main Body soldier, arrived at the Ramarama store and secured three or four days' supplies, as was his custom. Yesterday the storekeeper became anxious, as Bcdelph had not called for further food. He therefore went out to the man 'a tent, some miles away. On a chopping-block near the tent he found a human leg at a spot where Bcdelph had been splitting posts. Alaking further investigations, he found that Bedelph had crawled half a mile for assistance and then, overcome by weakness, had laid down, placed his hat over his face, and died. At the inquest a verdict was returued that deceased bled to death through accidentally severing his limb.
