Mr R. B. Gardener, of Levin, who has been seriously ill, shows signs of improvement.
Mr R. Hagan, sen., has entered the Moutere Hospital, Otaki, for the purpose of ah oporatiou. Mr and Mrs S. J. Gilbert, who huvo been on a month's visit to Sydney, returned to Levin on Tuesday. The Rev. A. M. Johnston, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Otaki for health reasons. Mr W. Tubman, who has .been on Messrs Dalgety and Co. 's staff at Covin for some time, has resigned his position to go farming. Mr J. Rhodes, of Blenheim, tills the vacancy. Mr and Mis C. Crabb and sou, who have been highly respected residents of Otaki for some years, have taken up residence at Levin, where they have secured a snug little farm.
Mr Alfred Matthews, who has been a member of the Eealherstou Road Board and County Council for the past iorty-iivo years, informed his fellowcouucillois on Tuesday that ho would riot have sought re-election could he have louud a vouuger man to take his place.
Mrs and Miss Fisher have returned lo Otaki, alter a delightful sojourn of several mouths in Australia. During their slay "across the Mill Pond" they visited all the big cities, and most of Hie many places of interest, and had a most enjoyable time altogether. Mrs Fisher's many friends in Otaki and district will be glud to hear that the trip and the change have done her a great amount of good, and she is cow in excellent health.
The funeral of the late Mr Joseph Broadbelt took place at Levin on Monday afternoon, the cortege being one
of the most representative that has been seen there for many years, old friends of the deceased being present from Fei'ding, Palmerstou North, Tiritea, Rongotea, and Kukti to pay their last mark of respect. The, Horowheuua County Council was represented by Mr P. W." Goldsmith and Mr W. N. Ander-
