MASTERTON RACES. I The Mastcrton races concluded on Saturday in splendid weather. There was a large attendance, the totalisator investments for both days being £50,933 10s, an increase of £7731 over last year’s figures. I The Bulls plough track suffered as the. result of recent rains. It has been decided to distribute 80 loads of eartii on same. Mr J. O’Connor, of Levin, has dis posed of the two year-old All Red— Melalogue filly to a Palmerston North sportsman. Mr W. J. Lovelock has purchased the Campfire gelding Sling Camp, the price being £SOO. He will be trained by Geo. Caddy. | Sportsmen will bo pleased to learn that Mr T. H. Davcy, of Christchurch, ' chief trotting stipendiary, is making a satisfactory recovery from his recent severe illness. The speedy American racehorse, I Man o’-War, has won during the past two years 249,465 dollars. The famous Isinglass took five years to earn 280,675 dollars. , Lucullan, which won the Flying Handicap at the Mastcrton meeting and paid a good dividend, is owned by Mr Geo. Seifert. Lucullan is trained by Fred Davis, at Woodvillc. Amongst the entries for the C.-J.C. Stewards ’ Handicap arc: Gloaming. Arrowsmith, Humbug, Chimera, Right and Left, Moehaela, Hymestra, Weidone, Onslouglit, 80-Peep, Solfauello, Surveyor, Rouen and Silver Link. Geo. West has boon responsible for a marked improvement in tho condition of Glentour, who looks the picture of health. The sou of Glenapp will : sport, silk at the Ashhurst-Pohangiua meeting. Trainer F. Davis has claimed the appellation of Five Eighths for the two-year-old son of All Black and War Talk. He recently purchased the youngster from his breeder, Mr T. H. Lowry. Mattock was recently schooled over hurdles by A. McDonald on the Bulls tracks, and the display was a great improvement on previous efforts. Whizz Bang, Wapping and Turakina ai=o received lessons, Greenstead. who achieved distinction at the recent Randwick meeting. Ls numbered among bargains of the sale ring. 'When sent up to auction as a yearling at Melbourne, in tho autumn of 1916, he was knocked down ui 100 guineas to the Sydney trainer, F. Williams. Kilgour (Kilbroney—Angelina) put up his best performance to date by I winning the Masterton Cup. He ran | second to Moiyneaux in the big event j at Otaki, but might have won had be j not been so inanistieally handled. I Kilgour is owned by Mr R. A- McKenzie, and trained by T. Lloyd, at Woodville.
