BOWLING.
; Two rinks of bowlers from the Otaki i Club visited Shannon on Wednesday for the opening day. The green was heavy, but, nevertheless, play was in teresting, and all had a royal time. Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed, while the Otaki players indulged in two good games. In the first Ayre, Howell, Witehell, Windley (s) met and defeated a Shannon rink, 31 —12, while in the second Gooding, Freeman, Smith, Noble (s) also won against Shannon by a large margin, 27—8. Both the Otaki rinks were in fine form and played splendidly. One rink, however, was not fortunate iu making the trip to and from Shannon, their car being brought to a standstill on numerous occasions through punctures. The opening of the Fox ton -green takes place on Wednesday, and several local players are arranging to make the trip. ■ The Levin Bowling Club will open the season on Labour Day (25th). The game has grown in popularity, and the Club is looking forward to a highly successful season. Invitations have been extended to the various district clubs to be represented.
