Correspondence. Correspondence was read and dealt •vitu, Urf under: — i’roin Public Works Department relative to improvements on tlie Baokukuriki road, and asking tor £b<J to be lodged to the credit of the Department for work done.—Decided to pay the amount. i.Tom A.Z. Railways, stating that: y improved access would be done at the | Piiiuuiertuu yards.-—Received, irom Bast bourne Borough Council asking lor use of the Council’s road grader.—Request granted, at a charge of Cl per day. irom Upper Hutt Town Board stat- i ing it intended to do pint ol the boun- | dary road with tarred metal, and asked that the Council pay hall.—-Decided to adhere to the original aiiungeiucnt. Odlin and Co., offering to assist to the extent of JC-oO in road widening at JMaungaiiui, and asking for tint Councils assistance. Thu J Government übu promised assistance. £1 for £1 on estimated cost. —Decided to accept F. L. Howell’s tender at £70.1 for 100 chains. : From Alalcoim Maclean asking for a special drainage area to be defined I at Paraparauinu. — Held over. From A. T. Clarke, offering a gift of 14 acres of land at I’aekakariki for the benefit of the inhabitants of the township. A portion, lie said, could be used for a workman’s cottage. He asked ~ that the Council accept dedication. — Left to the Chairman to arrange for an inspection, with power to act. ’ From G. Warmington, resigning her r position as assistant clerk on account of approaching marriage.-*—Resigna- r tion accepted with regret, Or. Howell, with power ‘ to act. A vote of .sympathy was accorded Cr. Howell on account of his serious » illness. The ranger (R. 0. Dick) reported i that during the .month he had been ill. , but had, nevertheless, impounded some 3J head of stock and sued several offending owners. t < Cr. Whiteman said ho was not satisfied with the way the ranger carried out his duties: he.did not know where he put his time in. He (the speaker) ’ was “a deal about the riding and saw 1 practically nothing of him. Cr. Barclay said wandering stock were numerous, but if he (the ranger) had been ii! nothing could be done tht» month. The report was adopted. George E. Hooper waited it the Council and asked for road extension at Mungaroa Valley. If the Council would not undertake the work it would prove'a great hardship to him, as during wet weather it was impossible to get in or out. The inspector said there should be no difficulty in- doing the work—it was flat country. The Chairman promised that he. Cr. Whiteman, and the inspector would consider the matter.-. Inspector’s Eepurt. The inspector (Air Cudby) reported thar the motor lorry-had. been sent to the Lower Hutt for a thorough overhaul. A small portion of the HuttWaikanae road in Rikiorangi had been metalled from the foot of the hill near Mr Clifton’s towards the summit, a distance of 40 chains: the metal was earted from the river, near the post office- The Maungakotukutuku road in "the Who re ro a Riding was under repair; the hill portion was completed, but there was now difficulty to obtain cart's to do the valley portion.
