OTAKI TOWN BOARD.

• NEW BOARD’S FIRST MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present: Commissioners J. P. Brandon, T. B. Bax, J. R. Bills, A. IV. Broadway, N. Cockrell. > C. Kilsby, and H. Nicolson. I’his being the iirst meeting of tli? new Board the Clerk (Mr Ayre) invited nominations for the position of chairman, and as Com. Brandon was the only one nominated, he was 'declared elected. Members congratulated him on his appointment, and expressed a hope that all members would work in harmony and for the progress of the town. Com. Brandon, in acknowledging the compliment, said lie saw no reason i why the Commissioners should not. work well together, and stated that he knew all would,do their best to give the town a push along. As chairman j he warmly congratulated the new Commissioners on their election. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and correspondence was read and dealt with as ! follows: From Horowkcnua County Council j relative to the hydro-electric confer- j nice at Levin. —The Chairman reported on the matter as already published. From the Diocesan Trustees, stating that the matter of the Tasman drains, aver which there had been trouble, ( would receive attention. stated ihat since the letter had been written a representative had inspected liic drains and it was hoped the matter would soon be righted. It was decided to draw the noxious weeds inspector’s attention to the orowth of gorse in vurioufc a* tne Board’s areu, and to make ' repeated applications through Mr Field, "M.P., for the long-promised crane for Otaki railway. —— Messrs Harper and Atmore wrote applying for exemption of restriction-: re reading in respect to sub-division of land by Mr F. A complaint was made that both motor buses were ajlqwe,] ti)' stand at the entrance of Tasman road, and thus almost block traffic.—Left to tho Chairman to attend to. Com. Cockrell, as secretary of the local fire brigade, pointed out that money promised would be most acceptable to the brigade. He reported that a telescopic ladder (22ft) had been added to the plant.—Nq acupn taken owing t'o lack ’of funds. a better sanitary system was suggested, while it was also deemed advisable to have a better lighting system for the winter months.
