FAMINE IN CHINA.
A THOUSAND DEATHS DAILY'. EELIEr MEASURES TAKEN IN AMERICA. New October 3. The Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Church has received a cable message from Pekin, stating that thirty million Chinese are suffering from famine, and there are a thousand deaths daily. A report from Tokio says it is understood tEat -Japan will supply 500,000 bushels of rice to relieve the Chinese famine. China is to pay it through a loan. The American Red Cross will take immediate measures to relieve the famine. A cable tt.es . : from the American Ambassador in China, Mr Crane, stated that conditions were (most serious and relief needed very urgently. The Commandant in Manila, General Kernant. announced that the United States army transports, upon regular trips from Manila to China, will devote part of their cargo space for the transport of clothing for the Chinese famine victims, and will also collect I'rom port of eali in the South Pacific food collected by The Pilippine Relief Committee.
