RE BENZINE FIRE, MILL ROAD.
To the Kditor. Hr, —Jn rending your local re fire, it would appear to the general public that 1 had been careless when turning riiis light out. Now, Sir, my light was urnt-d out on Tuesday night, and had ;it not been turned out securely the light would have -till been burning on Wednesday, and that being so there would have been no leak. After the information I have receiv•d T feel quite confident that rr.y light was turned on full by some person, and I think that the least the person who threw the match down and saw the burst of flame should have attempted to put it out, or awakened those within the building. I cannot , thank Mr Chandler too much for his prompt action in putting the fire out, and thus preventing what might have been a most disastrous fir e in Otaki. Thanking you for your valuable space. —I am. etc. ’ M. BAXTER. Otaki. October 4th, XS2O,
