The price of the new- season’s mak: of butter will be increased to abou’ 2s lOd per pound as from to-morrow It is explained by the factor', authorities that the price paid fo butter-fat since August Ist has bee: 2s lid per pound, and one leading bui ter factory in Otago and Southlum has now decided to charge 2s 71 d pe pound for this season’s make, wliic means that the retail price will babout 2s lOd. The factory referred t has to sell a portion of its output to day at a loss of a shilling a iiound It is understood here that there i plenty of butter in the Dominion to day, and it is likely to come on tie market freely now that there is a fre market.
The Butter Commission is expeetci to make its report to the House o Representatives this week (says tin Dominion”). There is little douh that it will recommend that the pro dueers shall- receive the full mark.: price, as determined by the expo: value. But there is some reason to be lieve that the local consumers wit obtain a concession in price, involviu.j a continuation of the subsidy no being paid ou locally-consumed butte: bv the Government.
