Y.M.C.A.
SHOP AT OTAKI. On Saturday last a shop was held at Brights ’ Theatre supper-room, by • a • ladies ’ committee (Mrs W. G. Slade- j I convener) for the purpose of Taising funds for furnishing and equipping a i Y.M.C.A. room at Otaki, to lie opened shortly. With commendable zeal, the ) ladies set out to .raise £2O. by ' this effort, and it speaks well for their | energy that the proceeds considerably exceeded that amount. There was'a splendid-display of vegetables, produce, cooker}’, etc., and these were sold readily. Sister Lewis and Mrs Slade had charge of. the cakes, sweets and meat, Misses Kirk and Simcox the vegetables, Miss Lee, Penn and Winnie | ; Granfield the tea rooms, while the j i Misses Taylor and M. Baker were assisted by a number of others in making button-holes' and selling flowers at i the trains and in the town. In this [ department splendid business was done. The children who sold flowers, anil brought scones, eggs, etc., for the sale are deserving of special thanks for . their valuable help. I
As a result of tlie sale the Y\M.C.A. room in tlic old Salvation Army buildings, will be comfortably furnished and equipped, and should make a most suitable and attractive rendezvous for the Otaki lads.
