BACTERIOLOGICAL LABORATORY.
PALMERSTON NORTH TO BE A CENTRE Ol’ RESEARCH.
The range of operations of the Palmerston North Hospital is to be greatly extended. The new Martin Memorial Block contains accommodation for the provision, amongst other things, of an X-ray department and u modern bacteriological laboratory. Farthermore a resident doctor-bac-teriologist is to bo appointed as «ell as a trained assistant.
Mr F. Wilberfoss was appointed to the latter position at meeting of the Hospital Board, lie is at present in Dunedin, and has had ox pericnce in bacteriological work n England during the war. The appointment of the doeturbacteiiologist is to IV? made as'son . ;■ the Health Department is in a position to recommend a suitable professional man to the post. Dr. Whitaker stated that it would result in Palmerston North Becoming the centre of bacteriological research on the coast. The arrangement had been made at a conference betwe-.n Drs.
