OTAKI V. HUIA (WELLINGTON)

An interesting hockey- match was played at Otaki, on a heavy ground, on Saturday, between members of the Huia (Wellington) and Otaki Clubs. The game -was very evenly contested, and fought out in a most sportsmanlike spirit. Play on the whole was very fine, the neat passing rushes, the splendid hitting and stopping, all beiug much above the average. The game eventually ended in a draw three goals each. Giddens (2) and Cook scored for Otaki, while Butcher (2) and Adams scored for the visitors. Messrs Tahiwi and Nicolsou acted as referees. DINNER. After the match both teams were royally entertained at dinner by Mr and Mrs W. Botheran, of the Family Hotel. The repast was enjoyed. Before dispersing Mr H. Nicolsou, ou behalf of tho two clubs, warmly thanked Mr and Mrs Botheran for their thoughtfulness and geuoro3ity, which, he said, had been fully appreciated. Mr Botheran, in reply, said being an old sport he had taken interest in the welfare of the teams. He and Mrs Botheran had derived as much pleasure by giving the dinner as his guests had in partaking of it. He wished both teams every success. Three hearty cheers were then given for Mr and Mrs Botheran. SMOKE CONCERT. Later in the evening the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert. Mr Nicolsou acted as chairman, and welcomed the Wellington boys, after which songs were given by essrs Hailwood, Iveys, Adams and Butcher (Wellington) and Natt Hanloy, Ay. Bowden, Jacob Utiku, Enoka and Heriarc Tahiwi, while Mr List gave a recitation. All items were enjoye i. Mr Hanley presided at the piano, and besides playing all accompaniments, entertained all by his quaintness and originality. At the conclusion cheers were given for the chairman and for Mrs Nicolson, who had tastefully decorated the tables with the clubs' colours, and for otherwise assisting.

Mr Keys, captain of the Huia Club, returned thanks for the hospitalityextended them, and invited the mem-bers-of tho Otaki Club to participate in a game at Wellington.
