AN INTERESTING GIFT.

- The Rev. O. V. Petrie, ALA., of Otaki, has received a very handsome gift from Mr Herbert Gaby, of Devon, England, through his son, Hr H. J. Gaby, of Wellington, to hand over to the Otaki Alaori Church. The. gif: takes the form of a magnificent Lore Bible, in two volumes—one of the ! “pecial edition de luxe of 485 copies,— handsomely bound, beautifully printed on splendid paper, and magnificently Illustrated by the celebrated Gustave Do re The Bible contain* the following inscription, neatly lettered: —“A sriiali token to the Maoris of Otaki, for urte in the Alaori Church, from fheir old friend of the fifties, Herbert Gaby, 1020.” We understand that the donor of this gift:. Afr Herbert Gaby, carne to Xev. Zealand hi 1857, and was lay reader in the Kelson district for a long nine. Be afterward? went to Wellington, and worked there for many year*. He used to visit the halt Air Booth (Maori Brimmer) at Otaki in the fifties, 0r,4 was greatly inter ested is the Maori work in this district. Some twelve year* ago Air Gaby returned •© the Old Country where ! etffl re*ides. He will he 87 year* of age next October.
