TROUBLE IN WELLINGTON.
NO TEAMS, GAS OE ELECTEIC
POAVEK.
Wellington citizens have been in : bad way during this week owing to tin shortage of coal, caused through trouble with the watersid'b workers The trams only ran for a few hours or Monday, and on Tuesday and Wed nesday no trams at all were running. The electric power and gas supple were also cut off. These restriction - caused much inconvenience and not : little distress in the cTty. Many factories had to be closed down for wan'
of power, and there were many uu'en ployed.
A ballot of watersiders was take on Wednesday, when a large majorit decided to resume work at the Japan
cse steamer, unloading superpho.pliates, over which the whole troubl arose. However, owing it is said to in timidation, only a few men took v.i work, and soon nil were idle again
prevnile
However, better counsels and the men resumed work yosterdu morning as usual, working both tli phosphates and the coal. Thus th trams resumed running just befoxnoon yesterday.
No gas is vet available, however AVhen the trouble occurred on Moudiit the stokers for the gasworks left wort and they liavo not, yet returned. Then seems lo be no accounting . for tin
men's inactivity, but so long as th stokers refuse to work there will be n
gas. This is causing much inconven enee, especially in homes where prat tieally all the cooking is clone wit
gas stoves,
