MANAKAU.
' ' FARMERS’ UNION. The usual monthly meeting of the 'Manakau branch of the N.Z. Farmer 1 ’ Union was held recently. There was a good. attendance, and a lot of business was attended to. It was resolved to invite Mr 0. V/. Gorringe, Government expert in swine husbandry, to visit Manakau on Thursday, 2tith. (See notice elsewhere.) It was also decided to hold a dance on or about September 10th. For tins purpose the following were elected a dance committee:—Messrs Duncum, W. Bevan, 11. G. Bryant, Clifford, Swainsou and Perham. ACCIDENT. While Master A. Scliolcs was driving M> Honiig’s motor delivery car at Kuku yesterday ho turned the corner near the Catholic Church too suddenly, and the car capsized. Tho driver fortunately escaped with minor injuries, but the car was rather badly smashed. FOOTBALLERS' SOCIAL. The complimentary social, tendered to members of the Hui Mui football Club by the ladies of Manakau on Mon day night, was a most enjoyable func tion, and the management is to be ■warmly congratulated on its successful efforts. The hall, which was tastefully decorated, was crowded, and dancing was indulged in with gusto- to music supplied by,the Cook orchestra. Tic floor was in good order, and supper fully appreciated. Among the decora lions was a goal post beautifully done hr the club’s colours. During the evening musical items were rendered by Messrs Pirimi and Henarc Tallin:. Hanley ;rrtd Trcvothiek and the Misses Wehipeiliaiia, while the fancy dancing of the Misses Kimball was appreciated. The latter young ladies appeared m costume, while Mr Kofoed added to tho effect by supplying coloured lights. Among those present were several from Otaki, but unfortunately many were prevented irom attending through the function not having been advertised. During the evening Major Tatum, on behalf of the footballers, tluinkc 1 the ladies for the splendid .function Major Tatum also offered a pipe as a tropliv for Ike Hui Mai footballer showing the most improved form in the next two matches.
