PETTY THEFTS.

To the Editor. Sir, —I hud this lust autumn a very pretty ' bright yellow chrysanthemum ■ in my front garden. A. was looking forward to delighting the public eye (and my own) by planting out a long line of its shoots. Last night some one pulled it up, broke it in two, arid made off with half of it, and put the other half back. Pieces outside the front gate which had been dropped made me investigate. This is the first, time during many years of gardening that this has happened to me. It augurs ill tor any laying out of flower bods in our rest resort. I hope the shoots taken will not grow! We are a long »a; from our American cousins, who can keep gardens without even a fence 01 1 ailing lound them. Yours, etc., CiKACE POX, Librarian, Otaki Public Library. August 17.
