THE PASSING OF A VETERAN.
MB HENRY WALTON. The hand of death has just removed one of our fast-thinning rank of veteran soldiers, in the person of Mr Henry Walton, of Beach Road, Waikanae, who passed away quietly at his horn, this morning. Mr Walton was a veto ran whose experiences were of a par j tieularly interesting nature, he having j had a remarkable career. He was on of the very few remaining soldiers wh took part in the great Crimean cam paign, and also participated in the fighting connected with the Indian Mutiny. He was for years a man-o' warsman, travelling nearly all over tlu world, and having exciting experience.: in many lands. Ho fought in the BaltK Sea and also in China. A great many years ago he came to New Zealand where he married and became a steady industrious pineer settler. After thirty six years ago he came to Waikanae, where he took up land, and has resided there ever since. He was a man of re markablc activity, and worked hard until a few weeks of his death, which was due to general breaking-up. He took a keen interest in public affairs, and his pen was used freely in vent. lating, in the public press, matters oJ general interest. He was a man ..' high integrity-pa hone-t, hard-wOrK-ing man, who held the esteem ot all with whom lie came into contact. Deceased leaves a wife and grown-up family of three sons and two daughters —Mosdames W. Langley (Christchurch) and Hcalcy (Palmcrston North), and Messrs H. K. Walton (Masterton) H. K. Walton (Koputa--10a), and J. T. Walton (Waikanae, late of Hokianga). . The funeral will take place at Waikanae on Sunday next, leaving at 1.30 p.m. for the Waikanae cemetery.
