A MYSTERY SOLVED.
ME GILLIES’ BODY POUND. A gruesome discovery, made on Wednesday morning, indicates the clearing up of the mystery surrounding the t disappearance from Palmerston North j on March 24th last of Mr Percy Archibald Gillies, a married man, aged 4S years. For some time after his disappearance searching inquiries were made by the police and relatives, and a substantial reward was ollered for information leading to the discovery of Mr Gillies, dead or alive. At It nan. on Wednesday Mr C. T. Keeble, j of ritzherbert, and an employee named I-;. C. Edmonds, were working on the former’s property, facing the rivcifront, when they noticed the body oS a mail held fast in some driftwood, h having, apparently been washed down the river. The police were immediately informed of the fact, and Constable Gow proceeded to the scene. The body was in a very advanced state of do composition —in fact, nearly all the Jiesh hud gone from the bones, and ;he features wore unrecognisable. Only a few shreds of clothing and the boots remained on the body. The clue to Mr Gillies’ identity, however, was found some twenty yards from the body. On the maker’s tag, inside the overcoat, was written, in indelible ink, llie name “P. Gillies, Otuki.” Mi .Gillies had lived in Otaki for many vears. and liad only resided in Palmerston for a comparatively short period before his disappearance. Deceased was a nephew of Mr Hugh Gillies, of Uangitikei Line, and is survived by a wife and family.—-Palmerston “Daib Times.”
