A SCHOOL OF WHALES.
IN THE NAPIER ROADSTEAD. 1 About S o’clock on Saturday morn- , ling a large school of whales made its appearance in the Napier roadstead (says the “Telegraph”). Just exactly how many there were is -unknown, but those who were for- . tunate enough to see them state that . - there was a very large number, t* At one time no less than eight of i them were “spouting” at once, and it c was a frequent sight to see three or e more “spouting” at the same time. The whales were first seen off tho t Breakwater, and they swam towards o the Petane beach, approaching quite s near to the entrance to the inner hard hour. , , n The appearance of the whales so r close in is a rare occurrence in these s waters, and the novelty created a great c deal pf interest.
