STILL AT LARGE.
r* WEIvAKOA i'AlvM BO¥S AT PAEKAKARIKI. J Some excitement was caused at Paekakariki uu Friday, when the two lads —strung, burly boys of some lti years—who recently escaped from the Weraloa industrial Farm, and who made lireir presence felt at To Horo and later at fVaikanae by thieving, were found hiding behind the guods shed at Packakanki. They were fully armed, having in their possession a service rille, fully loaded, 100 odd cartridges, a dangerous looking knife, and a revolver. They were hauled before a tribunal of : railway employees, but their tale was so plausible that the majority of the men agreed that the boys were nut escapees from the farm, and in consequence they w ere allowed to proceed on their way, the lads agreeing at the same time —to prove they were not from Wcraroa —to leave the rille bo- Q hind. Later it was ascertained that < the police were searching for two lads I answering their description, and Con- " stables Satherley tOtaki) and t (Jokusonvillo) were aiommuureutetl with, amt the latter made a trip to Pnekakariki and commandeered the rifle. In the meantime the boys made towauls Pori run, whiloh it is stated, they readied sit' 2 p.m. on Saturday. It is further believed that here they misrepresented themselves and secured a quantity of goods, booking the order to a well-known townsman. Beyond I this they have nut been heard of, but it is surmised that they made for Wellington. . One boy is said to have the reputa- 1: tiun of breaking bounds on three pro- E vions occasions, having once journeyed I; as far as Hamilton in a railway truck, | later lie reached Marton, and the third ft time got as far as Masterton.
