PAEKAKARIKI.

The township of Packakariki still continues to progress. The latest add! tion in the building line is a lino up-to-date motor garage, which is being built to the order of Mr F. R. Holtom, out progressive townsman. Unfortunately, owing to lack of cement, the structure fs not complete, but once finished wi.. ' prove an acquisition that doubtless wid Ibe much appreciated. It is safe to pro ' diet, that the garage will be a boon 1a motorists. Miss Simmoiuls, assisting postmistress, who has been away on a well deserved holiday, has again resumed duties. A water supply for Packakariki i now practically tin assured fact. The necessary poll will be taken at an early date. The voice of the public is so strong in favour that the majority ilikely to be a very large one. As the result of a recent benefit entertainment to one of the Railway Department ’s employees some £4O wtvraised. The gift was fully appreciated. There is still a great shortage of milk herc, and although the milkman goes on his daily round he is only able to supply a few people. At times milk m received from Paraparaumu, which eases'the shortage and gladdens the ' hearts of mothers who have babies. The hill road, despite the work recently done on it by.the Government, is still extremely dangerous in places, and last week another car went over the embankment, and remains at the foot to tell its tale. The driver, accompanied by another gentleman, whs driving quietly along, but in changing gears the car ran backward and toppled over. Luckily the occupants jumped clear. The mishap occurred in the locality where there was a fatal accident several months ago. This place needs attention. House property changes hands frequently, ami places that could bbought for £3OO a while back arc now selling at up to £9OO. Even “shacks” command high prices.
