MANAWATU HUNT.

MEETS AT WAIKANAE. The Waikanac sports had a gala week last week, when the Manawatu Hunt's "pack" was taken down the line, and hare and drag hunting was indulged in from Monday till Friday. The huntsmen and hounds wero accorn- f modated at Mr H. D. Buchanan's homestead for the week, and afternoon tea was provided on several occasions. Mr and Mrs Howell also ho*- , pitably entertained those out during i the week. The sport provided was . splendid, and large numbers of spectators thoroughly enjoyed the fun. The | "fencing" was first-class, the hare . hunting bringing out some great "leppors > '—eight-wire fences proving no i obstacle. The hounds acquitted themselves splendidly in this department. Only three "spills" occurred during the whole week, and one of those was on flic "flat." A return visit is being ' eagerly anticipated. The properties hunted over were those of Messrs A. , ,T. Robinson, A. A. Milner, N. D. Buchanan. T. A. Cameron, P. A. Howell, Strawbridge Bros., and W. Potts. A full list of those who rode to hounds was not obtainable, but among them were Miss Underwood on | Dr. Jim; Messrs D. E. Buchanan (deputy-master), Ebony; J- Sexton (huntsman), Chautauqua; H. P.
