TOWN BOARD FINANCES.
THE KATES. At last Thursday's meeting of the Otaki Town Board the Chairman reported that on tho 30lk June, 1920, the position of rates was:—General: Outstanding on 31st March, 1920, £1214 14s sd; collected sinco that date £277 8s 3d;still outstanding £937 6's 2d. Special: Outstanding 31st March, 1920, £BS 6s 9d; collected, £32 Is 6d; still outstanding, £53 5s 3d. Totals: Outstanding 31st March, 1920, £I3OO Is 2d; collected since, £303 9s 9d; still outstanding £990 lis sd. Of the general rates (£590 12s 2d) outstanding at tho 31st March, 1919, only £5 His 3d had been collected. No amount was received on account of general rates outstanding from 1914 to 1918.
Of the special rates (£27 Cs lOd) outstanding at March 31,1919, only 10s 2d had been collected, and nothing on account of amount's outstanding from 191-1 to 1918.
It was fully recognised by members that the position was a serious one, and the proposal to sue for all outstanding rates and to push the matter to tho furthest, limit was agreed to.
