The "Groymouth Star" pays that prospects are brightening in Blackball. During the hist few months the population has increased, as has also the coal export. At present every man is working at the mine, which is a pleastint contrast with the state of affairs several months ago. Tin' first of a series of horticultural e\enings (under the aut-pices of the tuu local horticultural societies) will be held on Friday, 9th pro.x. Details will be advertised. An endeavour will be made, this winter, to secure papers or addresses on horticultural subjects from experts residing outside the district. By this means interest in horticulture should be stimulated. In these columns on Saturday a complaint was made about the late dolivery of a telegram. The incident has been accounted for. A new telegraph bey who did not <juite realise the responsibility of his position, carried the telegram in his pocket and did not deliver it until next day.
