r The Ilorowliemia Racing Club is anxious 10 ttavo restored to it one ©t the permits for a day of racing which Mas taken from it some time ago when the redistribution and curtailment of racing was agreed upon by Parliament. The clui) used to have two days’ racing in the year; then tor some years it had no racing at all. and now it has one day in the year. A deputation from the club waited on the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Anderson) on Monday to ask for tile restoration of this lost day. The deputation was introduced by Mr W. H. field. M.P. It was urged on behalf of the club that it had been in financial difficulties owing to having lost this extra day, owing to having lost all racing for some years, and owing to its having given all its profits for patriotnc purposes. The club., it was said, was the possessor of a very line course, which was used in the town of .Levin not only for racing, but as a showground, and for general sports purposes. It would be a calamity for the town if the course were lost, but in the bad years it had been almost lost to the club. Even now it would not be possible for ihe club to acquire and hold the course unless the lost racing permit were restored to it. It was suggested that there were still three days I i;, fie 'Wellington district to be distrir bated, anti if so the club asked to have one of them allotted to Levin. If onlv n redistribution were possible then the club asked that the Horowhenua district should not be left to the tender mercies of the Racing Conference, for the reason, as stated, that the Conference. was not sympathetic to country clubs. The Minister promised to give the matter consideration. Sleight of Hand and The Hound are at present doing steady work, but are expected to be in full training at no distant date. The owner. Mr Armstrong. is at present in America on holiJay.
