throughout the Dominion, and the De- j partiuent naturally looks to parents f, and guardians of children to assist j them in their efforts to care for the | children's teeth, and thus remove one j of (ho most fruitful sourees of disease. It is a well-established fact that there is without exception no oilier factor which directly and indirectly causes so much disease and ill-health as decay of the teeth, and "a healthy mouth is without exception the most valuable asset a person can ever possess." We strongly advise all readers ~1" the ''Mail" to carefully peruse the article appearing in our last issue, and appeal to them to endeavour io Rive full effect to the suggestions contained therein. j Is There No Profiteering? Many people want io know—and we are among them -the reason for the wide disparity in the cost of potatoes in Canterbury and some parts of the North Island. The potato season has been an excellent one in Canterbury lhi s year. There is practically no blight, and the yield has been a remarkably heavy one. Prime potatoes are now selling at country stations in , Canterbury at £J 13s per ton. and the growers wiml to know how it is that these'same potatoes are being retailed in the Wellington province and other ! p: ,rts of the North Island at from £VJ> to £l(s per ton. It ij< declared that £l6 has been charged of late in certain parts. The present retail price si Otaki is Lis Oil per ewt. Correspondents to the Cbrislchuieh daily papers point out that, allowing for railage, handling, steamer rates, commissi,,!, etc.. the retailers' price is out of all proportion to the price paid to the producer. The growers are grumbling very much at tlu- low price they get, the consumers are tip in arms at the high cost to .hem. and both side, are urging the Government i" make enquiries into the k ,",,,,, „.,..'
