An interesting matrimonial case is reported from Zurich, where the law a fiords unusual facilities fsays the “Observer’-*). It concerns a young couple named Lcnisner. They wore both aged twenty when they were divorced within n year, fell in love again, an-! marriage followed, with another divorce after fourteen months. Once more they wore re married, and divorce was pronounced a third time at Zurwh recently. It must be a wearing life, the paper continues, and the chief danger seems to be that they will get married absent-mindedly some day out of due time, .and so commit bigamy with one another. A London cablegram says:—Private Toplis. who murdered a chauffeur at Andover on 24rh April, and escaped in the chauffeur's ear. was rounded up and shot in a Cumberland village, after a six weeks' hue and cry. during which Toplis-made several attempts to holt] tip motorists. He also shot a policeman and a farmer in the BranfTshire Highlands. A Cumberland policeman challenged Toyiis. who whipped out a revolver and menaced the policeman and escaped temporarily. A party of police collected and surrounded him. Toplis made a last stand, firing until he was shot dead.
