LICENSING MATTERS.
At the annual meeting of the Manswatu Licensing Committee, Leu Freeman. of Foxton, applied for a renewal of Ihc license in respect to Whyte’s Hotel. The police stated that the erection of the hotel was far front complete and that the license expired on June o'Jth. Mr Freeman said he would secthat the bar was opened by-that date. The Chairman agreed to grant the license, but said the licensee would have to be in occupation of the bar in the new building by July Ist, and advised that efforts should be made to have rooms ready for the travelling public by that: dale. In connection with the application of William McKegg (Albion Hotel) the police reports were most favourable, and Mr Murdock (a member of the Beach) said the hotel was one of the best conducted in the dominion. A license in respect to the Mttnawatu Club Hotel (Michael Moynilian) was also granted. It was pointed out that there had been two convictions, but these covered a period of over 30 years. The application of If. H. Beveridge ; Dost Office Hotel. Foxton) was adjourned, it being pointed out that repairs which had been ordered to be done, months ago were still undoue. Tho application of Percy Lumsden (Manawntu Hotel, J-’oxton) was also adjourned to allow repairs to be effected. The application of Thomas Curran (Family Hotel. Foxton) was also adjourned. it being pointed out that the applicant had been convicted on more than one charge, while other charges were pending. The committee intimated that Mr Curran would not lie granted a renewal, and that the owners must got a new licensee. Pei-mission was granted hotelkeepers -o put out their lights nt t* p.m. The matter of bolter liquor was discussed by the committee, it being pointed out that some liquor had been much below
