HOROWHENUA HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above was held at the Reading-room, Otaki, on Wednesday night, when there was a fair attendance of members, Mr Frank Penn (president) in the chair. Report and Balance-sheet. The annual report (already published) was read, together with the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance in hand of £o odd, with no liabilities. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr H. Witchell said the year had been si fairly satisfactory one. The sxdcmlid efforts made in the tea-rooms and at the sweets stall had been a great help. Mr Witchell said he regret led that more people did not show an active interest in the shows, ami urged that some steps be taken to secure more exhibitors. Mr Broadway seconded the motion, which was carried, after u little discussion. Election of Officers. The following officers were, duly elected:—Patron. Mr W. if. Simcox; president, Mr 11. Witchell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs If. Freeman and 11. Cockrell; committee, Mcsdames J. W. Hodgson, T. Synnol t, L. Kilmixter, ami Fox, .Misses Tews, Bradcy, Edmed, M. Baker and t'rcHiii, Messrs H. Small, A W. Broadway, L. Kihnister, W. Bummers, A. Wilson, Frank Penn. Albert Wmith, l,i. Noble, and Rev. G. F. Petrie, M.A.; secretary and treasurer. Mr fch Norgrove; assistant secretary. Miss Penn; lion, auditor, Mr P. Freeman. General Business. It wa resolved to purchase a quantity of crockery ware, offered for sale by the Patriotic Society, and the meeting decided not to allow same oui on hire. On llie moth I' Mr Small, it was decided to hold another scries of “horticultural evenings’’ during the winter mouths. A sub committee, comprising the-president, Mr Cockrell, Mr Small and tjie secretary, was set up lo arrange details, finance, etc., iii connection with same. Tlie construction of exhibition tables was briefly discussed, being left for the committee to deal with. The committee will meet next week to consider the dates for next Spring and Autumn Shows, arrange schedules.
