Fallowing upon » day of drabuc.-r, liiat marred the real imprcssivenc-ss of Friday's ceremonial parades, Prince’s '■'author prevailed yesterday lor the Loyal race meeting, promoted by. tin: Canterbury Jockey Club in houour of Hie Prince of Wales’ visit. There was a large crowd present who gave his Highness a warmly enthusiastic rccept ion. The Prince appeared on the course mounted and despatched a field of four in one race. Afterwards he negotiated a steeplechase fence in great style. Later his mount, baulked in taking a bru'h obstacle, and the Prince slid suddenly and unceremoniously to the ground. He was soon mounted again, and on returning to the grandstand met with a most; enthusiastic reception. To-day hi-. Royal Highness and staff attended divine service at the Anglican Cathedral, which was filled to overflowing. In the afternoon he paid vi-its to Christ >* College, the Soldier*' Sanatorium at Cashmere Hills, and the Orthopaedic Hospital, in which he expressed great admiration for the work being done.
