FARM NOTES.
A remarkable story of the recovery of a lost purse is reported at M’orthing. The purse, which contained two coins, a button, and a postage stamp, was lost at a school treat last summer by a little girl, the daughter of the local postman, and it was recently found in the stomach of a cow which had been grazing in the field in which the treat took place. The cow had been killed for Christmas.
The Now Zealand representatives of leading rabbitskin dealers have been advised from London that a drop of fully -o per cent is anticipated at this week’s sales. Advices have been received in Dunedin, that considerable financial difficulties are being experienced throughout the United Slates owing to the banks calling in loans from traders, and big operations are seriously hampered.
At a meeting of the Castlederg Farmers’ Association a resolution was passed demanding at least £9 per cwt for pork, or in the alternative the establishment of an open market and the abolition ot’ the license system. They also stated that they view with alarm the rise in the price of bacon which had lately been announced, and considered that they were badly treated over the whole pork business.
They are waking tip to the seriousness of the crime of selling adulterated milk in Adelaide. At Adelaide last month a milk vendor who pleaded guilty to three charges of having had in his possesion adulterated milk was involved at the Police Court in fines totalling £llo, and it. was ordered that his mime, place of abode, the nature of cacti ollenec, and the penalty imposed should be published at his expense in cc.eh of the metropolitan newspapers.
The purchase of J.tchen Daisy’s May ICing of Langwatcr for £T00(l has set a new record iu the United (states for Guernsey cattle. It is the highest pri l vale sale price for the breed. He was bred by Langwater Farms, Massachusetts, and sold about two years ago to IT. E. Nixon, of California, for £1(500, l lie highest price paid up to,that date, lie was later secured by M’. H. Dupee for service at Hdgemoor Farm, California. This Guernsey sire is out of imp. Jtclien Daisy 3rd, with an A. li. production of 7101 b fat. Tic is by Dolly Dimple’s May King of Langwater, sire of many high producers, including Langwatcr Nancy, one of the five loot Jib cows of the breed.
