OTAKI TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of tho above Board was held on Thursday night. Present: Commissioners J. P. Brandon (chairman), P. ltikihana, K. M. D ’Atk. H. Nieolsou. J. Meads, H. H. Giliver, aud IV. Noble. Correspondence.
Correspondence was read and dealt with as under:—
From Palmerston North Hospital Board, notifying the Board that the Board’s half-yearly levy was £3S 16s.— Considered satisfactory. From D. J. Reardon, reminding the Board that payments iu connection with the proposed electric lighting scheme were due, and that it was. his intention, if necessary, io wait on the. Board in June. —Mr Reardon invited to be present.
From Commissioner of Police, acknowledging final cheque for section (opposite Bank of Australasia). —Received. From Valuer-General, staling a revaluation of tho Board’s area would probably bo made during the present year.—Deeided to press for revaluation at an early date as possible, this step being in view of the proposed borough movement.
from frank Penn, making further application for a subsidy of £23 for his booklet entitled “Across the Turnmas and Beautiful Otaki.” —The Chairman considered any movement to advance the district should be encouraged, but others considered as it was a private enterprise it slibuld not be supported. The roadman reported that, all roads, except Tasman, were in good order except t',,r a few pot holes. Aotnki streot could do with a light dialing of gravel, while a roller was also needed. Ho stated that, extra men were still needed, a - there was much work to do. The rutin on Tasman road would also roceive attention.-Decided to make, inquirin' re pine of rollers, while the matter of encroaching fences on Mill road was left in abeyance. Mr Webby also asked if he was exici ted to eon Icinu Chinese shaoks which wore built id tins, etc. —Pointed cut that the matter was one for the Health Department, but in one case where one. was in course of erection it was agreed that the erection should be stopped, ft was decided to hit the Board’s solicitor advise that the buildin:; be removed with li days. Miscellaneous. Ko the military ambulance sub-,-ribod for by the children of the dtstiiet. the Chairman reported that the ambulance was to be di-posed ot by the Palmerston North Hospital Board, ns it w!i>: unsuitable for the work in New niiimi. It was to lit; replaced by a . i -.: iil *■ r ambulance, which, he was informed. would ineet the requirements the, Otaki district. —No further action to be taken. The Chairman reported that mutters in connection with Dun-tan street continuation and a through roml from j'rthur street to Domain road had been delayed through the Prince V: visit to New Zealand. In connection with Arthur street, one or two owners had yet to be seen, while some owners had offered their land gratis; others offered it at low rates. — Held over pending further enquiries. j~was decided to hold the next ordinary meeting of the Board on June loth. H was decided to ask the Government to pay ail expenses incurred at Otaki through the cancellation of the Prince’s visit. Mr Bennett’« estimate for kerbing, channelling and asphalting Mill and Wueroßga roads and footpath in Otaki totalled £1285. —A loan for improvement. wav suggested, but the Chairman ad v Fed that it be left over for the committee to deal with. A letter we» received from the Fire Brigade asking for the u>.u#l subsidy.— To be dealt with when the estimates were drawn up.
